There are currently two versions of The Wednesday Word:
Weekly Gospel commentaries by internationally acclaimed biblical scholar Dom Henry Wansbrough OSB.
Promoting the Catholic life of your school and parish: Enhancing the home–school–parish partnership!
To receive your digital Free-of-Charge Parish leaflets each week
A weekly Prayer Custom, based in Lectio Divina with the forthcoming readings from Sunday Mass, to enrich and deepen the prayer life of your church-attending parishioners. The parish version includes weekly commentaries from Dom Henry Wansbrough OSB and helps parishioners to prepare Sunday Mass. It also encourages them to pray in spiritual solidarity with and for your parish school’s families – supporting the Church’s Mission in the world.
To receive your Free-of-Charge primary school outreach leaflets each week,
A Weekly ‘Good News’ Gift: sharing the Gospel with your primary school’s families. This high-impact, colourful leaflet is especially designed to engage the non-church-going parents and children – an opportunity for a midweek encounter with Christ. This lively, weekly contact between the Church and primary school parents also acts as a regular reminder and invitation to weekend Mass in your parish.
The Wednesday Word is a national missionary initiative to support the Church's Mission in the Year of Hope. Please support The Wednesday Word parish school mission with your parish prayers. Specialised resources for primary schools and parish churches, are the focus of this Christ centred, weekly custom.
Dom Henry Wansbrough, General Editor of the New Jerusalem Bible who, for many years, was a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, writes the weekly Sunday Gospel reflection/commentary for the parish Wednesday Word.
This is a splendid and imaginative initiative, to bring the message of the gospel to Christians at home. Even those who don’t go to church have the right to hear and think about the gospel, and The Wednesday Word gives them a chance to do just that. It will also be a great support to know that others all over the country are joining in this reflection”
The materials produced are already used extensively throughout the dioceses in England and Wales - bringing remarkable graces to many. I offer my prayers and encouragement not only to those who provide The Wednesday Word but also to those who use it.
